Friday 2/27/09

Parked my bike at Clyde Station, drove to Jackson and parked the truck. Ran to my bike (3.2 miles) and then rode the bike back to the truck. Took me 1 hour 20 seconds to finish the whole thing.

First mile - 11.15 - Excellent time for me. Almost broke back into my old 10 minute range. The biking has really helped out...almost too much. My legs kept going faster than my lungs could keep up. I was fine, but I couldn't keep my breath.

Second mile - 18.17 - Walking speed.

Last leg (1.2 miles) - 15.53 - Slower speed, but I finished it.

Bike - A little over 15 minutes to get back. Just a casual ride.

I know if I could pace myself on the first mile, I could run longer. But, for some reason, I always push that first mile trying to beat my times.

I feel great. I hope I can do it again tomorrow, but rain is in the forecast. We'll see...

Thursday 2/27/09

Nothing to report today. Wife still sick, so I had daddy duties morning and evening. Only thing we did of exercise was shopping and Toys-R-Us and WalMart tonight.

I feel like a blob. Hope KeithAnn gets better soon and I can get back on the road.

Wednesday 2/25/09

Wife sick now. Having to watch/feed/entertain baby. Got dark by the time baby was ready to chill. We went to the mall and made a few laps around it. Tried to do some RKB's but I pulled a muscle in my shoulder this weekend pulling stumps in the lake and it is killing me right now.

Can't wait until the time changes so we won't be so pushed for time before it gets dark..

Watching LOST now.

Tuesday 2/24/09

It's Fat Tuesday.

Just minor walk with the wife and baby tonight. Nothing really to note. Some friends going out tonight, but we are staying in trying to be good. Planning on a run tomorrow morning. I'll update blog then.

Monday 2/23/09

I feel better today, but still a little light headed and queezy.

KeithAnn and Rebekah joined me today on a shorter bike ride. We did 8.1 miles this afternoon. This is the furthest we've gone so far with the baby trailer...it really makes its presence known after about 6 miles...

Scale reads 333 again this week. Don't know what the deal is. I must admit that I did cheat with the Mexican last week... Hopefully, next week will be better.

Sunday 2/22/09

In bed with a stomach bug all day. Wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Saturday 2/21/09

I made it 14.2 miles on the bike. I really wanted to go further before turning around, but I'm glad I stopped when I did. It was a long way and a little more difficult than I thought it would be on my legs. I never lost my breathe, but my legs were burned after the ride. I've got a long way to go before I can run that type of distance.

I bought a Garmin Forerunner 205 this week and it is a really cool gadget to have. Give times, distance, speed, and pace. It came in real handy I was unfamiliar with this area and it wasn't marked too well.

Now I'm headed to help Eric pull stumps and branches out of his cove for his new boat house. I'm sure I will be able to sleep well tonight....

Friday 2/20/09

Having pains in my left shin. I have had problems with shin splints on that leg before, so I decided to stay off it for a few days. The last time it was pretty bad and took a long time to recover from it. So, I'm going to be riding the bike a lot more to make up for the cardio.

Today KeithAnn and I (with Rebekah riding in her new baby trailer - courtesy of Jon, Emily, and Jayson) rode from Jackson road to Clyde station - 3.4 miles each way. It was really cold and it got dark on us coming back so it wasn't the best trip.

I don't think I'm going to make tomorrows goal for running, but I'm going to try and make it the Epley station (will be 14.5 mile round trip) tomorrow. This is almost double what I've been riding, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thursday 2/19/09

Today was cool. Chris got a new bike also and wanted to try it out. We started at Jackson Road and did the full 8.2 miles. I didn't time it as we were talking most of the way. My legs were pretty much jelly when we got back... I'm going to have to step it up a good bit to keep up with Chris. His bike is awesome and is wicked fast.

We met Jenny and Molly (fastest wiener dog out there), KeithAnn and Rebekah, Marie (sister from Atlanta), and Crystal and Ty.

After the 8.2 bike ride, I ran a mile in 12.51. Slower time, but real good since my legs were burned out from that ride.

I feel great and can't wait for tomorrow to do it again.

Wednesday 2/18/09

Advocare - Herbal Cleanse - Intense, ask and I will tell you.

No running today. I went on a cool bike ride instead. I was anxious to try out my new bike. Rode 8.2 miles on the trace. I started at Jackson road and road to Southern Miss. I did the first 4.1 in 16:31. Coming back was a little longer...21:23. My quads were on fire at the end. The rest of me was fine. I just need to work on my legs more. After the baby goes down, I intend on using the RKB's for some swings.

Tomorrow I am going to try a 3 mile run. I'll update you then.

Tuesday, 2/17/09

I am a guest blogger.

I'm here to tell you that we did not excercise today, but in our defense we did NOT eat Mexican either and that is amazing.

Rebekah was a sick one this morning. She spent the day with her Oma and KaaKaa. When they brought her home, they pulled us by the hair, kicking and screaming, all the way to Cracker Barrel for dinner. It was dark when we got home and everybody was tired.

Check back tomorrow. One of us is bound to do something and it will probably be J.R.

K-bye,
KeithAnn

Monday 2/16/09

Weigh in results - 333 lbs. Only 2 pounds gone. Not exactly what I'd hoped for, but I'll take it. I'm going to start monitoring my caloric intake more closely and NO MEXICAN this week. It's like cocaine to me, so it's gonna be hard...

Can't run this morning. Mondays are always hard for me at work. I'll have to get some miles in this afternoon.

Found this today and really liked it : No matter how slow you run it is still faster than someone sitting on a couch.

Well...it's 6:35 and dark outside, wife tired, and baby crying. Won't be any running today. Good note is that we upgraded our bikes about a 1000% this afternoon. We were riding PeeWee Herman specials from WalMart. We both got Giant hybrid roadbikes - very cool and very comfortable.

Advocare - started the Herbal Cleanse today. Says to stay away from MNS and Thermoplus during this time, so 10 days of this and I'll start back with the others.

Sunday 2/15/09

Advocare Thermoplus and MNS Max Energy - big difference from Max3. I don't recommend taking Max Energy and then having to sit still in church for several hours...

No running today. Taking a break from impact on the joints. Stayed busy in the yard most the afternoon while the baby slept. After she woke up, we took the bikes out for a 5 mile ride. I wish we could have gone further, but baby is hard to keep entertained in a baby bike seat...

I saw a guy at the Trace this week that had a great idea. He parked his bike at the Jackson Road station, drove back to the Southern Miss gateway station, ran to his bike, then rode his bike back to USM to his truck. This is 4.1 miles one way. This is going to be my goal for the end of this week. Hopefully Saturday I'll be able to achieve this "mini" goal.

Tomorrow is weigh in. I'll keep you posted...

Saturday 2/14/09

Today we had a crew of folks to go with. Jenny, Crystal and Tyson, KeithAnn and Rebekah, and Linda. Jenny and I started out running from the Zero mark. Linda started off walking, but finished out running. KA and Crystal were pushing strollers with the babies. They walked a few and ran a few. Proud of them both.

Ran a total of 2.5 today. Was really trying for 3. Jenny tried to burst my lungs for the first few minutes, but she soon sped off from my slow pace. I finished the first mile in 12.17. I was out of breath, so I walked the next 1/2 mile to the 1.5 marker on the Trace where the rest of the crew met up with me. Linda wanted to run back to the car so we took off together, but again, another girl soon sped off from me. I finished the last 1.5 miles running with a slow time of 20.07.

Glad the endurance is coming back fast. I just really wish the speed would follow as quickly and the weight come off overnight... Will be so nice to run without this 100 lbs belly hanging onto me.

Friday 2/13/08

2 miles!! Took the advice of a few not to time the run, but to run further. I didn't time the first mile, but couldn't help myself on the 2nd (13.20), but I know I was running faster the 1st one. It was much easier today. I guessing the temperature had a lot to do with that. Cool 51 degrees this morning.

It has started raining now and weather man says it's gonna be around all day. Maybe we can walk the mall this afternoon or something else. My wife is pretty creative..

Advocare MNS Max3 and Thermoplus.

Thursday 2/12/09

Advocare MNS Max3 (almost out, going to change to MNS Max Energy Saturday) and Thermoplus. Ordered the joint health last night, hope it arrives soon.

Slow day at work, so I was able to get in a quick run this afternoon before the family got home. Did the mile in 12.47. A little slower than Tuesday, but it was intentional. I keep running past the mile marker and made it to the 1.5 mile mark before stopping. I was exhausted. It is hot outside. (not really...72, but it feels hotter!). Just a casual walk back to the truck.

I've had people wanting to see pics of progress. I'll try to start posting pics this week. I'm also planning on posting my weight every Monday.

Wedsnesday 2/11/09

Advocare Thermoplus and Max 3.

No running today. It was raining early this morning and not much free time this afternoon. Also just taking a day break to keep my joints healthy. Did some walking around the neighborhood chasing a small black dog that many of you know.. Came back and did 50 swings with the rkb's. Nothing much other to speak of. Plan on hitting tomorrow pretty good.

Tuesday 2/10/09

Advocare Thermoplus and MNS Max 3.

Ran a mile in 12.29 this morning. The Trace is a one way path, so I walked/light jogged back to the truck. Had to really push myself towards the end of the run...very humid and already fighting a cold it was very hard to keep my breath...

Headed to work now. Going to see if I can get KeithAnn and Rebekah to join me for a bike ride this afternoon. I feel fantastic!

We did ride bikes this afternoon. I think we all had fun. We rode about 3 and half miles before it got dark on us. We then headed to the local spot for some Fajita salad...love the mexican food, but I'm starting to feel like a taco..

Monday 2/09/09

Advocare MNS Max 3 and Thermoplus

Today was hard. Couldn't get to the trace or gym early today. Had an out of town meeting in Jackson. There nearly all morning and had to work several claims once I got back to town. Dark outside once I got home. We went to our favorite, local joint - El Rancho. 2 for 1 fajitas. Ate shrimp and stayed very light on the chips, rice, and beans.

Got home and felt gross for sitting all day. Went outside (very pleasant 71 degrees) and did 100 swings with the RKB (russian kettlebells reference from here on out). Doesn't sound like a lot of work, but trust me, it is...especially to a 335 lbs fat man...

No meetings tomorrow, so I'm planning to have a great run.

More to come tomorrow...

Sunday 2/8/09

Advocare MNS Max 3 and Thermoplus to start the day.

I hit the Rails to Trails Trace today with Rebekah in the stroller. Wanted to take it easy since its been awhile since my last run. First mile was 13.37. I must say this was very disappointing to me as I broke into the 10 minute mile just two months ago. So, I walked and light jogged back to the car to get us back in time for church.
OK, well here it is. I'm going to try my best to keep a daily log on my progress so that my compadres can keep an eye on me and push me in the direction I need to go.

Many know I participated in an event for the "Biggest Loser" for my local tv station. It was a great experience as it lead me to realize I really like to run...more like jog at this point... Anyway, since the ending 11/21/08, I have gained back a few pounds...15 to be exact. My current weight is an embarrasing 335 lbs. My goal is to get back to what I really enjoy and get back to my fighting weight (and the weight I was when I met KeithAnn) of 220 lbs. A long road ahead.

Many great friends have encouraged me to get back to exercising. Jon Alford is a very true friend. Never too shy to tell me to "get off it and start exercising", Jon has been very helpful with everything from the Russian Kettlebells, Advocare products, and sharing his running stories and accomplishments. Also, Chris and Jenny Maul have been a great help with getting me back to running. Jenny started out a few months ahead of me, but has now far eclipsed me as she and Chris ran a half marathon (13.1 miles!) last weekend.

So, here is my goal. I want to run a half marathon. Chris signed me up for the annual marathon in Walt Disney World for January, 2010. Almost a full year to shed over 100 pounds and run over 13 miles. Can I do it? You beat your a$$ I can!
