Thursday 7/09/09

No exercising today. Long drive this afternoon and got home around 6.

Breakfast - V8 - Jon, I didn't get your advice until today, I'll add something tomorrow.

Lunch - Low carb lunch bowl - chili flavor - more like dirt flavor..

Dinner - Onion soup and a few pieces of grilled chicken.

Wednesday 7/08/09

Breakfast - V8

Lunch - Grilled chicken sandwhich from Chick-fil-a without bun.

Dinner - Left over chicken from night before.

We bike 15.2 miles. KeithAnn's kept track of total bike time at 1:17. Think we were out there for about 2 hours playing with baby at playground at Southern Miss. Fun night, but very dark when we got back to the truck. We all took showers and went to bed.

Tuesday 7/7/09

Raining and with baby until dark. We made a couple of rounds around WalMart and Sams...

Breakfast - V8

Lunch - Low carb wrap with cole slaw from Sweet Peppers

Dinner - Rotiserrie chicken from Sams.

Monday 7/6/09

Biked 7.8 miles with KeithAnn and Rebekah. KeithAnn ordered some new contraption that lets the baby sit on the handle bars rather than behind you or being in the trailer. Pretty cool looking. Good day for a ride. Nice and cool after a long needed rain.

Breakfast - V8 low sodium drink

Lunch - 1 cup of whole wheat spaghetti (sp?). Pre-packaged low carb deal. Wasn't so bad.

Dinner - Fajita salad - grilled chicked, lettuce, and cheese sause. Probably too many tortilla chips...

Weight - 335.

Out for two weeks

Taking classes out of town for last two weeks. Ends this friday. I haven't had access to internet, so this is first chance I've had to update blog.
I'm keeping track of food and exercise, but I don't have time to update the blog now.

Thanks.

Tuesday 6/9/09

Long day today at work. Phone ringing all day long.

No exercise. Was able to do some outside painting that has been waiting on me several days. Almost dark when I finished. Will definitely do something tomorrow. KeithAnn has mentioned bike ride.

Breakfast - v-8 low sodium drink

Lunch - Grilled chicked breast from Chick-Fil-A. Hard to just throw away the best part, but dog enjoyed it...

Dinner - Grilled Tuna steaks. A little fishy, but was good overall.

Monday 6/8/09

Back to it. I realize its been a long time and many of you have asked about the blog and running. I haven't done anything prolonged in a long time. We ran a 5k in May in New Orleans that was a lot of fun, but was very hot. I told myself it was too hot and would give myself a heartattack to keep at it. I realize that was stupid, so I'm back at training and trying to stay healthy. A lot slower this time because it really is very hot and in all seriousness, I really don't want to injure myself.

I've decided to include my meals and snacks as well to keep up with that in written form. I have decided to do a high protein diet to get this off fast. Not full Atkins, but similar (not all pork, sausage, and cheeseburgers). Good bit of chicken, fish, greens, whole grains, etc. I welcome any advice from anyone on the diet.

Today we went to the Trace (all 3 of us). We walked ran the first mile. KeithAnn is really liking the running and is doing very well with it. She kept running to Clyde (3.2 miles). I turned back and walked to the truck with the baby in the stroller. Doesn't sound like much, but I really enjoyed being out and moving around. It really wasn't nearly as hot as I thought it would be and those 2 miles went by fairly fast and easy.

More to come tomorrow. Oh yeah, scale reads 327.

Sunday 3/20/09

Back to work! Beautiful day outside day. Took Rebekah with me this morning. Walked the first mile, ran 1/2 mile, and walked my way back to the van. Haven't run in two weeks, so trying to ease back into without injuring myself (which seems easy to do these days...).

Got home and Rebekah is sluggish and tired. She has a small temp, so she and I will stay at home. KeithAnn is at church already watching the special needs nursery. Maybe we can go for another walk as the whole family if baby starts feeling better.

Wednesday 3/25/09

Sorry for the delay in posting.

We had a great time on vacation last week. Really hated coming back to work, but very nice to sleep in our own beds - Rebekah also says this, she grew very tired of the cheap hotel playpen beds.

Weigh in Monday was 330, again... Not too discouraged, since no exercise other than walking the strip everyday. Glad there wasn't a gain since I did slack off with pancakes!

It has been raining almost everyday since we got back and still more rain in the future. I have been keeping myself busy between rain breaks trying to clean up the yard. I have so many projects that I want to do, but little time to get them done. I try to stay busy because it keeps me out of the kitchen at night...

With the rain and yard/clean up projects this next week, there probably own't be much updating here. I am sticking with it though, so don't worry about me falling off the wagon jsut yet.

Thanks to everyone with their encouragement.

Saturday 3/14/09

Rain, rain all day. So we were inside with the party all afternoon. Such a long day, we were all exhausted when it was over.
--
We are headed for TN and GA for the next week taking some time off for Spring Break. We are headed to Gatlinburg first for a few days of rest and relaxation (no worries Jon, not planning on eating pancakes everyday...)

Weight in this morning still reads 330. Can't seem to break this mark. Still optomistic though. Still want/need to shed these pounds.

I'll update next week.

Friday 3/13/09

Friday the 13th, but I'm now at home and nothing bad happened, so a good day.

We had a 5k race this afternoon at the Trace. It was the Catholic/Irish 5k Fun Run. There were a lot of people there that we knew and it was great to see so many familiar faces and all have common interests of running. I haven't run in 2 weeks trying to get my feet and shins to heal up. I was nervous about it, but they were fine and not hurting right now. I'm about to hit the hay, so we'll see in the morning.

My time today was 40:39. I was trying to get sub-40 (good for a 300+ lbs man), but just couldn't keep pace. My handy-dandy garmin watch did not connect in time for the race and I couldn't get it off bike mode on the fly, so I couldn't check my pace. I'm not sure what KeithAnn's time was, but she beat me by almost a minute. I am so proud of her. She did great considering she hasn't been training long.

Tomorrow is Rebekah and Luke's joint 1 year birthday party. No exercise scheduled. I'm sure keeping track of plenty of babies will be tiring enough...

Thursday 3/12/09

We all went for a casual ride on the Trace. We started and Jackson Road and made to Clyde Station and back. It was 6.8 miles, but I'm saying it was 7, cause that trailer really makes you push harder. It was fun to be outside with the family and getting in exercise all at the same time.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Wednesday 3/11/09

15.4 miles logged today on the bike. Took me 1 hour and a little over 9 minutes to complete it. Started at Clyde Station and made it all the way to Sumrall. There are some hills between Epley and Sumrall that surprised me, but nothing that couldn't be handled...just slowed me down a little. As I said yesterday, I'm always trying to beat my times. I only beat my time from yesterday by 16 seconds between Clyde and Epley. My GPS keeps track of the speeds. My top speed today was 21.5

Pollen is getting worse by the day, luckily I'm not allergic to it, but it sure does dry me out quick breathing it in along that trail. Had yellow tires again today...

Really felt good to get that distance in. Hopefully, I can do it again tomorrow.

Tuesday 3/10/09

Happy birthday Rebekah! My little baby girl turned One year old today. Sure went by fast...

Took a late lunch today and jetted out to the Trace for some miles on the bike. Did 8 miles in 32.36. I was trying to get in 14, but between the heat (jumped 30 degrees since this time last week) and the pollen, I could only get in 8. The pollen was so thick I swear I inhaled 11 cubic feet of it... even my tires were greenish/yellow (not kidding) when I got back. I try to push myself hard when I'm out there. I'm sure I could have gone further if I just did a casual ride, but I also try to beat the time before that...

Going to eat at Cracker Barrell with my parents for baby's birthday tonight. Next time to ride is early tomorrow morning. I'll update it then.

Monday, March 9, 2009

Monday 3/9/09

Weigh in results : 330 lbs. Gained back 2 lbs. Haven't been running this week, but I also haven't been gourging myself, so this is pretty disappointing. I had this same wall during my Biggest Loser days...

Had a quick break during lunch. Was only able to get 1.6 miles in today before heading back to the job.

Have beed looking forward to time change for a long time, but it seemed today it still got dark before we could get out to ride.

Sunday 3/8/09

Worked hard in the yard all afternoon. Working in briars and ashes is not much fun...

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Saturday 3/7/09

Finaly got in some good exercise this morning. 10 miles in 46:02 on the bike. I could definitely tell the difference from not doing anything this week.

We are headed to Jackson now for Rebekah's family 1st birthday party.

Friday, March 6, 2009

Friday 3/6/09

Long day at work. Odd since I try not to work too hard on fridays... We have some friends that arrived a few minutes ago from Memphis, so nothing on schedule today, but catching up.

Tomorrow is supposed to be great weather. I will be at the Trace early tomorrow to get many miles with the bike.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Thursday 3/5/09

Got to do something today. Starting to feel like a blob. KeithAnn has Bunco tonight, so maybe me and Rebekah can take bike and her weight sled (trailer) to get in a few miles.

Wednesday 3/4/09

Couldn't take the foot pain anymore. Went to my doctor. X-rays showing nothing abnormal. Doc says its tendonitis and to stay off and let it heal. Just have to take Aleve and keep off it (hard to keep off your feet). Hoping there would have been a quick fix.

This really sucks. I wish my body would keep up with my will to get this weight off me.

Tuesday 3/3/09

No official exercise this day. Just worked a little more in the yard trying to clean up more. I started a fire line to help clear the underbrush and briars left over from last weekend. I didn't figure anything much would come of it since it's been raining and we even had some snow accumulation Sunday, but it got into my neighbors overgrown field quick. I had to call the Fire Dept to help out cause my garden hose wasn't cutting it.

So after the FD left, it was dark, I was covered in soot, and KeithAnn wasn't very pleased with my adventures with fire.

Monday, March 2, 2009

Monday 3/2/09

328. Nice to finally see some decent results.

No running today. Left foot is bad sore. If it keeps up, I'm headed to the doctor. Planning on doing some good biking tomorrow.

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Weekend 2/28-3/1/09

Nothing much to note here. Raining sat morning. Worked in the yard with two guys clearing property lines to build a new fence all day.

Snowing when I first woke up Sunday. Very cold outside. Finished up in the yard after it warmed a little.

I think that this will have to become Big Man Cycle for a few weeks. My run friday really caused some pain with my left leg. My shin splints are acting up and a muscle in my left foot is really becoming painful...even walking on it. Hopefully, keeping the weight off it for a few weeks will help alot...or so I hope.

Friday, February 27, 2009

Friday 2/27/09

Parked my bike at Clyde Station, drove to Jackson and parked the truck. Ran to my bike (3.2 miles) and then rode the bike back to the truck. Took me 1 hour 20 seconds to finish the whole thing.

First mile - 11.15 - Excellent time for me. Almost broke back into my old 10 minute range. The biking has really helped out...almost too much. My legs kept going faster than my lungs could keep up. I was fine, but I couldn't keep my breath.

Second mile - 18.17 - Walking speed.

Last leg (1.2 miles) - 15.53 - Slower speed, but I finished it.

Bike - A little over 15 minutes to get back. Just a casual ride.

I know if I could pace myself on the first mile, I could run longer. But, for some reason, I always push that first mile trying to beat my times.

I feel great. I hope I can do it again tomorrow, but rain is in the forecast. We'll see...

Thursday 2/27/09

Nothing to report today. Wife still sick, so I had daddy duties morning and evening. Only thing we did of exercise was shopping and Toys-R-Us and WalMart tonight.

I feel like a blob. Hope KeithAnn gets better soon and I can get back on the road.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Wednesday 2/25/09

Wife sick now. Having to watch/feed/entertain baby. Got dark by the time baby was ready to chill. We went to the mall and made a few laps around it. Tried to do some RKB's but I pulled a muscle in my shoulder this weekend pulling stumps in the lake and it is killing me right now.

Can't wait until the time changes so we won't be so pushed for time before it gets dark..

Watching LOST now.

Tuesday 2/24/09

It's Fat Tuesday.

Just minor walk with the wife and baby tonight. Nothing really to note. Some friends going out tonight, but we are staying in trying to be good. Planning on a run tomorrow morning. I'll update blog then.

Monday, February 23, 2009

Monday 2/23/09

I feel better today, but still a little light headed and queezy.

KeithAnn and Rebekah joined me today on a shorter bike ride. We did 8.1 miles this afternoon. This is the furthest we've gone so far with the baby trailer...it really makes its presence known after about 6 miles...

Scale reads 333 again this week. Don't know what the deal is. I must admit that I did cheat with the Mexican last week... Hopefully, next week will be better.

Sunday 2/22/09

In bed with a stomach bug all day. Wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Saturday, February 21, 2009

Saturday 2/21/09

I made it 14.2 miles on the bike. I really wanted to go further before turning around, but I'm glad I stopped when I did. It was a long way and a little more difficult than I thought it would be on my legs. I never lost my breathe, but my legs were burned after the ride. I've got a long way to go before I can run that type of distance.

I bought a Garmin Forerunner 205 this week and it is a really cool gadget to have. Give times, distance, speed, and pace. It came in real handy I was unfamiliar with this area and it wasn't marked too well.

Now I'm headed to help Eric pull stumps and branches out of his cove for his new boat house. I'm sure I will be able to sleep well tonight....

Friday, February 20, 2009

Friday 2/20/09

Having pains in my left shin. I have had problems with shin splints on that leg before, so I decided to stay off it for a few days. The last time it was pretty bad and took a long time to recover from it. So, I'm going to be riding the bike a lot more to make up for the cardio.

Today KeithAnn and I (with Rebekah riding in her new baby trailer - courtesy of Jon, Emily, and Jayson) rode from Jackson road to Clyde station - 3.4 miles each way. It was really cold and it got dark on us coming back so it wasn't the best trip.

I don't think I'm going to make tomorrows goal for running, but I'm going to try and make it the Epley station (will be 14.5 mile round trip) tomorrow. This is almost double what I've been riding, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Thursday 2/19/09

Today was cool. Chris got a new bike also and wanted to try it out. We started at Jackson Road and did the full 8.2 miles. I didn't time it as we were talking most of the way. My legs were pretty much jelly when we got back... I'm going to have to step it up a good bit to keep up with Chris. His bike is awesome and is wicked fast.

We met Jenny and Molly (fastest wiener dog out there), KeithAnn and Rebekah, Marie (sister from Atlanta), and Crystal and Ty.

After the 8.2 bike ride, I ran a mile in 12.51. Slower time, but real good since my legs were burned out from that ride.

I feel great and can't wait for tomorrow to do it again.

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Wednesday 2/18/09

Advocare - Herbal Cleanse - Intense, ask and I will tell you.

No running today. I went on a cool bike ride instead. I was anxious to try out my new bike. Rode 8.2 miles on the trace. I started at Jackson road and road to Southern Miss. I did the first 4.1 in 16:31. Coming back was a little longer...21:23. My quads were on fire at the end. The rest of me was fine. I just need to work on my legs more. After the baby goes down, I intend on using the RKB's for some swings.

Tomorrow I am going to try a 3 mile run. I'll update you then.

Tuesday, 2/17/09

I am a guest blogger.

I'm here to tell you that we did not excercise today, but in our defense we did NOT eat Mexican either and that is amazing.

Rebekah was a sick one this morning. She spent the day with her Oma and KaaKaa. When they brought her home, they pulled us by the hair, kicking and screaming, all the way to Cracker Barrel for dinner. It was dark when we got home and everybody was tired.

Check back tomorrow. One of us is bound to do something and it will probably be J.R.

K-bye,
KeithAnn

Monday 2/16/09

Weigh in results - 333 lbs. Only 2 pounds gone. Not exactly what I'd hoped for, but I'll take it. I'm going to start monitoring my caloric intake more closely and NO MEXICAN this week. It's like cocaine to me, so it's gonna be hard...

Can't run this morning. Mondays are always hard for me at work. I'll have to get some miles in this afternoon.

Found this today and really liked it : No matter how slow you run it is still faster than someone sitting on a couch.

Well...it's 6:35 and dark outside, wife tired, and baby crying. Won't be any running today. Good note is that we upgraded our bikes about a 1000% this afternoon. We were riding PeeWee Herman specials from WalMart. We both got Giant hybrid roadbikes - very cool and very comfortable.

Advocare - started the Herbal Cleanse today. Says to stay away from MNS and Thermoplus during this time, so 10 days of this and I'll start back with the others.

Sunday, February 15, 2009

Sunday 2/15/09

Advocare Thermoplus and MNS Max Energy - big difference from Max3. I don't recommend taking Max Energy and then having to sit still in church for several hours...

No running today. Taking a break from impact on the joints. Stayed busy in the yard most the afternoon while the baby slept. After she woke up, we took the bikes out for a 5 mile ride. I wish we could have gone further, but baby is hard to keep entertained in a baby bike seat...

I saw a guy at the Trace this week that had a great idea. He parked his bike at the Jackson Road station, drove back to the Southern Miss gateway station, ran to his bike, then rode his bike back to USM to his truck. This is 4.1 miles one way. This is going to be my goal for the end of this week. Hopefully Saturday I'll be able to achieve this "mini" goal.

Tomorrow is weigh in. I'll keep you posted...

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Saturday 2/14/09

Today we had a crew of folks to go with. Jenny, Crystal and Tyson, KeithAnn and Rebekah, and Linda. Jenny and I started out running from the Zero mark. Linda started off walking, but finished out running. KA and Crystal were pushing strollers with the babies. They walked a few and ran a few. Proud of them both.

Ran a total of 2.5 today. Was really trying for 3. Jenny tried to burst my lungs for the first few minutes, but she soon sped off from my slow pace. I finished the first mile in 12.17. I was out of breath, so I walked the next 1/2 mile to the 1.5 marker on the Trace where the rest of the crew met up with me. Linda wanted to run back to the car so we took off together, but again, another girl soon sped off from me. I finished the last 1.5 miles running with a slow time of 20.07.

Glad the endurance is coming back fast. I just really wish the speed would follow as quickly and the weight come off overnight... Will be so nice to run without this 100 lbs belly hanging onto me.

Advocare MNS Max 3 (last day) and Thermoplus

Friday, February 13, 2009

Friday 2/13/08

2 miles!! Took the advice of a few not to time the run, but to run further. I didn't time the first mile, but couldn't help myself on the 2nd (13.20), but I know I was running faster the 1st one. It was much easier today. I guessing the temperature had a lot to do with that. Cool 51 degrees this morning.

It has started raining now and weather man says it's gonna be around all day. Maybe we can walk the mall this afternoon or something else. My wife is pretty creative..

Advocare MNS Max3 and Thermoplus.

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Thursday 2/12/09

Advocare MNS Max3 (almost out, going to change to MNS Max Energy Saturday) and Thermoplus. Ordered the joint health last night, hope it arrives soon.

Slow day at work, so I was able to get in a quick run this afternoon before the family got home. Did the mile in 12.47. A little slower than Tuesday, but it was intentional. I keep running past the mile marker and made it to the 1.5 mile mark before stopping. I was exhausted. It is hot outside. (not really...72, but it feels hotter!). Just a casual walk back to the truck.

I've had people wanting to see pics of progress. I'll try to start posting pics this week. I'm also planning on posting my weight every Monday.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Wedsnesday 2/11/09

Advocare Thermoplus and Max 3.

No running today. It was raining early this morning and not much free time this afternoon. Also just taking a day break to keep my joints healthy. Did some walking around the neighborhood chasing a small black dog that many of you know.. Came back and did 50 swings with the rkb's. Nothing much other to speak of. Plan on hitting tomorrow pretty good.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Tuesday 2/10/09

Advocare Thermoplus and MNS Max 3.

Ran a mile in 12.29 this morning. The Trace is a one way path, so I walked/light jogged back to the truck. Had to really push myself towards the end of the run...very humid and already fighting a cold it was very hard to keep my breath...

Headed to work now. Going to see if I can get KeithAnn and Rebekah to join me for a bike ride this afternoon. I feel fantastic!

We did ride bikes this afternoon. I think we all had fun. We rode about 3 and half miles before it got dark on us. We then headed to the local spot for some Fajita salad...love the mexican food, but I'm starting to feel like a taco..

Monday, February 9, 2009

Monday 2/09/09

Advocare MNS Max 3 and Thermoplus

Today was hard. Couldn't get to the trace or gym early today. Had an out of town meeting in Jackson. There nearly all morning and had to work several claims once I got back to town. Dark outside once I got home. We went to our favorite, local joint - El Rancho. 2 for 1 fajitas. Ate shrimp and stayed very light on the chips, rice, and beans.

Got home and felt gross for sitting all day. Went outside (very pleasant 71 degrees) and did 100 swings with the RKB (russian kettlebells reference from here on out). Doesn't sound like a lot of work, but trust me, it is...especially to a 335 lbs fat man...

No meetings tomorrow, so I'm planning to have a great run.

More to come tomorrow...

Sunday 2/8/09

Advocare MNS Max 3 and Thermoplus to start the day.

I hit the Rails to Trails Trace today with Rebekah in the stroller. Wanted to take it easy since its been awhile since my last run. First mile was 13.37. I must say this was very disappointing to me as I broke into the 10 minute mile just two months ago. So, I walked and light jogged back to the car to get us back in time for church.
OK, well here it is. I'm going to try my best to keep a daily log on my progress so that my compadres can keep an eye on me and push me in the direction I need to go.

Many know I participated in an event for the "Biggest Loser" for my local tv station. It was a great experience as it lead me to realize I really like to run...more like jog at this point... Anyway, since the ending 11/21/08, I have gained back a few pounds...15 to be exact. My current weight is an embarrasing 335 lbs. My goal is to get back to what I really enjoy and get back to my fighting weight (and the weight I was when I met KeithAnn) of 220 lbs. A long road ahead.

Many great friends have encouraged me to get back to exercising. Jon Alford is a very true friend. Never too shy to tell me to "get off it and start exercising", Jon has been very helpful with everything from the Russian Kettlebells, Advocare products, and sharing his running stories and accomplishments. Also, Chris and Jenny Maul have been a great help with getting me back to running. Jenny started out a few months ahead of me, but has now far eclipsed me as she and Chris ran a half marathon (13.1 miles!) last weekend.

So, here is my goal. I want to run a half marathon. Chris signed me up for the annual marathon in Walt Disney World for January, 2010. Almost a full year to shed over 100 pounds and run over 13 miles. Can I do it? You beat your a$$ I can!
